Kob shouder mount – Kobus Kob
The kob is part of the Bovidae family.
Rather of red colored, the male has large horns, massive and S-shaped, although some females have ever owned in some cases rare. The male has a shoulder height which can vary between 85 and 110 cm, while the finer female only measures 82 to 92 cm. Both have quite a weight, moving between 60 and 75kg for females and 85 and 120 kg for the male which can be a very impressive animal. It is a robust animal, which has a white crescent moon on the throat and a second task between the eyes. These make it recognizable.
Kob lives of 12 to 15 years, primarily in three areas that are located east of Senegal, east of Central or southern Chad. Absent from large forests like all other species of the savanna, the kob appreciates the great grassy plains and the presence of water. Its cry, identifiable, differs according to age. Adults will emit a whistling through the nostrils mainly during rut or mating rituals, while younger will bleat.The animal is very active throughout the day, it feeds on grasses of flooded grasslands. Vegetarian, it can in case of shortage feed on flowers or leaves. It drinks at least once a day, which explains its proximity to water bodies.
This mammal has a gestation of 250 to 270 days. Kob reaches sexual maturity at the age of 15 months. Females give birth from November to February and have only one cub per year. Younger suffer from a very high mortality stalked by many predators, making it rare and precious. However, it is not protected because it is not endangered.
