Klipspringer -Oreotragus oreotragus

The klipspringer is a small African antelope, also called sassa and the only representative of the genus Oreotragus.

It measures only 60 cm at the withers, and the weight of the male is only 10 kg, while that of the female is about 13 kg. Only the males have horns straight 8 cm on average, it is perched on small very sharp hooves adapted to the rock walls.

This species is very agile, on cliffs that seem insurmountable, mainly in the mountainous regions of Africa Southern

They live in small groups, they are often seen standing on the top of a rock where they can move, hide and find food easily. To mark their territory, the males deposit, on rounded stems, musk secreted by the pre-orbital glands, it has a very thick coat that cushioned the shock when dropped. It may drop 25 m high.

The mating season lasts from September to January. Gestation lasts about 214 days.

They live from Nigeria to Somalia in the Cape Province, Angola, Nigeria and the Bongo Mountains in Sudan.
