This anatidae is the only member of the genus Malocorhynchus.
It measures between 38 and 40 cm and has brownish plumage except the side that is white. The main feature of this species is its enormous beak spatula similar as the shoveler one. The beak allows the bird to filter plankton and microscopic crustaceans.
This species mainly people Australia. This is a nomad bird that travels in search of favorable water points.
