Maxwell’s duiker – Philantomba maxwellii
The Maxwell’s duiker can live in solo or small groups consisting of a male and a female or both with young people.
Its lifespan is estimated in the wild of 10 to 12 years and roughly 17 years in captivity.
The male’s horns are short, conical, very rounded at the base, a circular section, with slightly curved and upward; those of the female are shorter or may be absent. The muzzle has the appearance of a trunk and side clogs are small. The bristles of the shoulders may be as long as those of the rump. The tail is bushy and some bare at the inner root.
This species lives in forests, copses and brush. This omnivore eats leaves, shoots, fruits, termites, snails, eggs, carrion and flesh.
