Butterfly morpho – Morpho
Blue morpho
The Blue Morpho is a butterfly of the Nymphalidae family. The common name may refer to several species of iridescent blue butterfly, which live in the rainforests of South America, Central America, Brazil, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Guyana and Venezuela. This butterfly surprised by the metallic colors of its wings. The more discreet lapel has eyespots, which mimic the eyes of many birds, scaring predators.
The caterpillar, meanwhile, has a fairly repulsive odor. It can live up to two months, and feeds mainly on ripe fruit juice. He flies over the rivers where it has room to fly freely and where it prevents the maximum predators. This is one of the largest existing butterflies with 12-20 cm wingspan.
