Great Blue Turaco – Corythaeola cristata
The great blue turaco is the largest species of Turaco. This African bird, close cuckoos, is the only species of its genus .
Its plumage is bluish green, it has a tuft of 5 cm wide and its beak is yellow to red tip. It measures 65 to 75 cm.
It comes from the tropical forests of West and Central Africa .
It lives in the treetops, flies not very much and sometimes goes down to earth.It feeds on fruits and seeds and lives alone or in small groups.
It builds its nest in single branch platform at the top of a tree.
It lays a single egg, greenish white, incubated for 20 days. The young born, covered with brown-black downs and acquires its feathers to 4 or 5 weeks.
This species is not considered threatened.
